Short answer: with FLIMS, a medical lab in Jordan pays either 0.25 JOD per worksheet (Starter plan) or 500 JOD a year per installation for up to 10,000 patients (Annual Licence). On top of that there is a one-time 400 JOD setup fee and 50 JOD for each analyser you connect. A small new lab can be running for well under 1,000 JOD in its first year.
The rest of this guide explains what you pay for in any lab system, how to work out your own cost, and what to ask before you sign with any vendor.
What you pay for in a lab system
Whichever system you choose, the total cost is made of the same five parts:
- The software itself: a monthly or yearly subscription, a fee per worksheet or test, or a one-off licence.
- Setup: entering your test catalog, reference ranges, prices, users and report letterhead, and training your staff.
- Analyser integration: connecting each instrument so orders go out and results come back without retyping.
- Hardware: a server (for desktop systems), PCs, label printer, report printer and barcode scanner.
- Support and updates: whether new versions, fixes and help are included or charged separately.
Cloud systems like FLIMS remove the server from the list, because the system runs in the browser. You need a PC with Chrome or Edge and an internet connection.
FLIMS prices in JOD
| Item | Price | When you pay |
|---|---|---|
| Starter plan | 0.25 JOD per worksheet | Monthly, for the worksheets you create |
| Annual Licence | 500 JOD per installation per year | Yearly, covers up to 10,000 patients a year |
| Each extra 10,000 patients | +500 JOD a year | Yearly, Annual Licence only |
| New lab installation | 400 JOD | Once |
| Analyser integration | 50 JOD per device | Once per device |
Both plans include WhatsApp result notifications, the patient portal and the live dashboard. Updates and new releases are included. Prices exclude sales tax where it applies.
Which plan is cheaper for your lab?
The two plans cost the same at 2,000 worksheets a year, about 170 a month. Below that, Starter is cheaper. Above it, the Annual Licence is cheaper, and the gap grows with every extra worksheet.
A quick rule: if your lab sees more than 6 patients a day on average, compare the Annual Licence first.
Three worked examples
These examples assume one worksheet per patient visit.
1. A new lab: 120 patients a month, one analyser
- Starter: 1,440 worksheets × 0.25 = 360 JOD a year
- Setup: 400 JOD + 50 JOD for the analyser = 450 JOD once
- First year: 810 JOD. Following years: about 360 JOD, rising as the lab grows.
2. An established lab: 400 patients a month, three analysers
- Annual Licence: 4,800 patients a year is within the first 10,000, so 500 JOD a year
- Setup: 400 JOD + 3 × 50 JOD = 550 JOD once
- First year: 1,050 JOD. Following years: 500 JOD. On Starter the same lab would pay 1,200 JOD a year.
3. A busy lab: 1,500 patients a month, five analysers
- Annual Licence: 18,000 patients a year needs two bands of 10,000, so 1,000 JOD a year
- Setup: 400 JOD + 5 × 50 JOD = 650 JOD once
- First year: 1,650 JOD. Following years: 1,000 JOD.
Hardware you need
FLIMS needs no server. A typical lab uses:
- One PC per workstation (reception, lab, finance) with Chrome or Edge
- A reliable internet connection
- A barcode label printer for sample tubes
- A report printer
- A barcode scanner (optional but saves time at the bench)
Most labs already own most of this.
Questions to ask any lab system vendor
Before you compare quotes, make sure each one answers the same questions:
- Is there a fee per user or per branch, or is it per installation?
- Is analyser integration charged per device, and does it include testing orders and results end to end?
- Are updates and new versions included, or charged as upgrades?
- Do I need to buy a server, and who maintains it?
- Can patients receive results on WhatsApp, and are results sent by secure link rather than in the message?
- Does it report to the Ministry of Health and support ISO 15189 audits?
- Are reports available in Arabic and English, on my own letterhead?
- If I leave, can I export my patient and result data?
A cheaper licence can cost more over three years once setup, integration, server and upgrade fees are added. Compare the total for the first year and for year three.
